Why a pulsar
Out in deep space there are stars that spin many times a second and throw two beams of light out into the dark as they turn. From Earth you see the beam only when it sweeps past you, so the star seems to blink: a pulse, then another, then another, so steady that astronomers use them to keep time. That is a pulsar. It never stops, and it never misses a beat.
We wanted a station that does the same thing for Guyana. 99 Pulstar relays 88.5 Rock FM, Berbice, Guyana, to the world, 24 hours a day. 88.5 is a real radio station with real presenters and a real studio, and its shows go out over the air the way radio always has. 99 Pulstar takes those same shows and sends them out over the internet as they happen, and when the presenters go home the Pulstar mix keeps the beam turning. Whether you are in New Amsterdam, on the East Bank, in Brooklyn, Toronto or London, the signal reaches you.
It is run by a small family studio, not a network. That means the music is chosen by people who live here, the news is about the places you know, and if you write to us a person reads it. The name is a promise: we stay on, and we stay ours.
